There is major outrage brewing over a “technicality” on the popular game show “Game of Fortune.”

I will admit, I am not an avid WOF viewer, so my initial reaction when I watched this was, “Hey, Pat, and Wheel of Fortune,” bad choice…” but there may be more to the story than what I observed.

The controversy centers around a female contestant who was trying to figure out the final puzzle, and she apparently waited too long to say the final word in the phrase (which was correct) so they wouldn’t give her the grand prize.

I think she should’ve gotten the grand prize…

And I am not the only one, many people feel the same way, and even Wheel of Fortune sponsor Audi agrees, they robbed her on a weird technicality.

Western Journal reported that the category was “What are you doing?” and contestant Charlene was gearing up for the play of a lifetime.

After both the given and chosen letters filled out the phrase, Charlene was left with “_H__SING THE RIGHT __RD.”

Her first try was “Choosing The Right Card,” but that was incorrect. So she started out strong with her next attempt: “Choosing the right…” and just as her time was up, she said “word!”

And that was the correct phrase — but Sajak declined to give her the prize, apologetically explaining that her pause time had taken too long.

“This one’s tough because you said all the right words, including the word ‘word’ but as you know, it’s got to be more or less continuous,” Sajak said.

“We’ll allow for a little pause but not four or five seconds. I’m sorry, you did a good job in getting it but we can’t give you the prize and it was the Audi.”

Many viewers felt the sting of loss on Charlene’s behalf, some of them reaching out to the show and to Audi to voice their disappointment in the ruling and conviction that she had won the car fair and square.

Wheel of Fortune stood its ground and held its ruling, but Audi sided with the fans and announced its decision on Wednesday, that the contestant would be getting her car.

People were very passionate about this, on both sides of the spectrum:

“She just took a pause and said all the words that needed to be said. Give her the car!”

“y’all have way too much sponsorship money to be robbing the average citizen of some happiness at christmas in this pandemic times. SHAME ON WOF”

“Guys, she paused way too long. You have to say the whole sentence in one swift go. That’s how it’s always worked. If they made an exception for this, it would change how people solve the final puzzle forever. You’ve got to be super fast to win. Tough luck.”

“As a game show contestant you know there are rules in place. It sucks for her but rules are rules.”

“In all my years of watching game shows an answer must be a singular thought, be complete in that thought and start before the time’s up sound.”

“Give this woman her prize, Wheel Of Fortune, you look like scrooges.”

Well, what say you?
