On Wednesday, as the Supreme Court heard Dobbs v. Jackson, a case involving a Mississippi statute prohibiting abortions after 15 weeks, a group of House Democrats demonstrated in front of the court to express their opposition to the law.

Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat from New York, was among many who spoke out, calling it “a terrible day for our nation” because “Roe v. Wade is in risk once again.”

When Fox News caught up with the Democrat, she stated that America isn’t a democracy unless abortion is legalized in the country.

‘If women aren’t allowed to make decisions about their own bodies, we aren’t even in a democracy,’ she asserted.

In addition, Maloney stated that “we are speaking out against any efforts to turn back Roe v. Wade.”

As a result of the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the case, pro-life advocates have expressed optimism, with former Vice President Mike Pence stating that “we may well be on the cusp of an era when the Supreme Court sends Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history, where it belongs.”

According to him, “there is reason to believe that the days of Roe v. Wade are drawing to a close.”

GOP members of Congress made similar requests to the Supreme Court to update the legislation.
