After criticizing Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Sunday and expressing remorse for backing the conservative Republican, President Donald Trump issued a remark that has the potential to cause significant division in the state only weeks before two important US Senate runoff races take place.

As a result of the November 2020 election results in Georgia, Trump has frequently blamed Kemp, state’s Republican Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger and Dominion Voting Systems machines, which were used in the state, for his loss. The firm has been under assault from conservatives in the election’s wake, and it has had to defend itself against charges that their voting machines encouraged vote irregularities, which have been discredited.

Now, Kemp is once again Trump’s latest target in Georgia and on Sunday, he didn’t hold back is contempt for Kemp’s attempt to win re-election.

President Donald Trump decried unsupported claims of widespread voter fraud in a call-in interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, which was Trump’s first major television interview since winning the election. He also slammed both Kemp and Raffensperger for using Dominion voting machines in the state, which they both denied. Reports from Business Insider’s Rachel E. Greenspan state that just days after Joe Biden was declared the winner, Trump spread a ridiculous conspiracy theory about Dominion Voting Systems, an election-software company that was used by battleground states such as Michigan and Georgia, according to the publication. As a result of transferring votes from Trump to Biden in Pennsylvania and other states, Donald Trump alleged that Dominion “DELETED” more than one million Trump votes across the United States.

Everything must be approved by the legislature, and they had judges making deals, and they had electoral officials making deals, like this character in Georgia who’s a disaster,” Trump said of Raffensperger. “They had judges making deals, and they had electoral officials making deals,” Trump said of Raffensperger.

According to him, “the governor has done nothing.” “He has accomplished absolutely nothing. I’m embarrassed to admit that I endorsed him. But when I take a look at what’s going on, it’s quite horrifying.”

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp narrowly beat former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams in the 2018 gubernatorial election. Kemp was formerly Georgia’s Secretary of State. Since January 2019, he has served as the governor of the state of California.

To maintain their hold on the US Senate, Republicans would prefer to concentrate on reelecting Republican Sen. David Perdue and electing appointed Sen. Kelly Loeffler to fill the seat lost by former Sen. Johnny Isakson in December. Perdue will square off against Democrat Jon Ossoff, while Loeffler will square off against Democrat Raphael Warnock.

Because no candidate received a majority of the vote in the general election in November, runoff elections were held in both races to determine the winner. To be elected to the Georgia Senate, a candidate must get at least 50 percent of the vote, according to Georgia state law.

Raffensperger was asked to retire by both Perdue and Loeffler earlier this month, a request that he refused to accept.

Republicans would wish to avoid any internal party debates or division that may endanger their chances of retaining their Senate seats.

If Democrats are successful in capturing both seats, the Senate would be split 50-50, giving the party a majority with Vice President Kamala Harris having the authority to break ties.
