Joe Biden will get to fill a Supreme Court Justice opening this year as Justice Stephen Breyer announced his intent to retire at the end of this term.
Fox News is reporting that the justice will step down following the current Supreme Court term in early summer.
Breyer was appointed in 1994 by former President Bill Clinton.
Having served more than two decades, Breyer is now 83 years prompting Democrats to call on him to step down since Biden took office in the hopes of filling the coveted spot with another liberal.
The White House is not commenting on Breyer’s resignation at this time.

Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, tweeted Wednesday, “It has always been the decision of any Supreme Court Justice if and when they decide to retire, and how they want to announce it, and that remains the case today. We have no additional details or information to share from @WhiteHouse.”

Breyer’s replacement will be nominated by Biden, followed by a formal confirmation process, including hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The committee is chaired by Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin.
The committee will then vote on the nominee and send it to the Senate floor for a vote. Confirmation of the justice takes only a simple majority. The Senate is currently split 50-50 Republicans and Democrats. However, the tie breaking vote rests with Vice President Kamala Harris giving favor to the Dems.
